We are proud to present the Loudoun Medical Group (LMG) Annual Report as a service to both our patients and physician partners. As we look back on the year 2011, we are filled with a sense of pride and accomplishment at a year of change and growth. In 2011, a newly formed management team was organized with an “Evolution to Excellence” in mind. Additional personnel were hired to support practice operations and provide the underlying management team with the necessary infrastructure to continue to grow the organization and further develop existing practices. By the end of 2011, LMG had successfully added four new practices to its roster. By mid-May of 2012, an additional six practices have joined the group. This translates into a 22% increase in the number of practices or “pods” in LMG since 2010. Loudoun Medical Group currently spans a geographic area of over 65 miles from Berryville to Alexandria and employs over 700 employees who provide care to over half a million patients. Since 2010, LMG has added new specialties to the group as well as initiating several new product service lines. Loudoun Medical Group continues to remain the largest physician owned multi-specialty medical group in Northern Virginia. Although growth is important, Loudoun Medical Group never loses site of its original mission: to provide our patients with excellence in care. Quality patient care continues to be at the forefront, as we evolve with innovations and changes in healthcare laws. LMG is proud of the progress that has been made by the electronic medical records department with the conversion to the Pulse EHR system. The EHR conversion project will mark the transition from the former system to one that increases user efficiency, eases note documentation and ultimately improves patient care coordination.

Other “quality” initiatives instituted in the past year include employing a certified coder to perform “prospective” chart audits, to oversee the patient satisfaction survey process and to assist with developing and implementing quality assurance policies. By any measure and as evidenced in the accompanying statements, the last few years have been marked by solid financial results. The group developed and implemented a capitalization policy in 2011 and was able to revise shareholder agreements to reflect shareholder value. LMG also successfully renegotiated several managed care contracts, thereby ensuring optimum reimbursement for our practices. Loudoun Medical Group’s continued success remains a testament to the collective strength of our clinical providers and administrative staffs dedication to making quality and service their everyday mission. We are grateful for all of their hard work and look forward to a future of infinite possibilities.

Dr. Michele Reilly founded Ashburn Pediatrics in 1994, along with Drs. Theresa Crowley and Lewis Gold, who soon joined her in practice. The practice has grown steadily over the years and had the pleasure of treating 9,500 patients in 2011 in a warm and loving environment. The founding partners were pleased to welcome Drs. Amie Beloy, Maura Carroll, and Victoria Pierce as pod partners in 2009, and Dr. Jyotsna Shah in 2012. Dr. Gold retired from practice in 2010. Ashburn Pediatrics provides primary pediatric care to infants, children and adolescents from newborns to college age students. Their message is to provide quality pediatric care to meet the variable needs of the community. Ashburn Pediatrics providers pride themselves on being partners with parents to provide the knowledge needed to make sound medical, physical, and emotional decisions for their children. Their primary interest is to ensure healthy children with a healthy future. Ashburn Pediatrics continues to flourish, embracing Dr. Jane Curry and Nurse Practitioner, Katie Geaneas as new members of their Pod family during 2011. Providers at Ashburn Pediatrics are active on LMG committees during 2011 and 2012. Dr. Reilly continues to chair the HR Committee; Dr. Crowley is active on the Managed Care Committee; and Drs. Pierce, Carroll and Beloy are members of the Crendentialing, Human Resource and Quality Assurance Committees, respectively.
Dr. Linda Coleman, a Board-Certified Internist, has been practicing in Loudoun County for over 16 years. Her practice has grown to include two employed physicians, Dr. John Coleman and Dr. Haritha Yalamanchilli and two mid-level providers, Hope Marshall, CANP and Nathan Davidson, CFNP. Interestingly, Dr. Coleman’s father, Dr. John Coleman, practices part-time in the practice at the age of 84. His goal is to be the oldest practicing Board-Certified Family Physician in the United States. A few years ago, Dr. Linda Coleman expanded her practice to include aesthetic and hormone services in addition to the stellar episodic and preventive care already offered by her practice. Dr. Coleman and her team of both Internal Medicine & Family Medicine specialists are especially skilled in the management of patients who have multi-system disease processes. Dr. Coleman’s office is located in the Countryside area of Sterling. The office suite was recently expanded in conjunction with a large remodeling project. The remodeled suite features hardwood floors, frosted glass, and granite countertops throughout the suite. Coleman Primary Care Associates, where wellness and preventive services continue to be a thriving service line, welcomed a new Office Manager, Liza Jacks, in early 2011. Dr. Linda Coleman has served on the Managed Care Committee since 2000.
G. Neil Foster, M.D. Dr. Gavin Neil Foster specializes in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has been practicing since 1989 and is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is in solo practice, and his office is located on the Inova Loudoun Hospital campus – directly across from The Birthing Inn.
Under the leadership of its Medical Director, Dr. Carol Currier, Corporate Health Center (CHC) has served as one of the major Occupational Health Medicine and Workers Compensation centers in the metropolitan Washington area since 1987. In addition to occupational medicine, CHC offers opiate addiction counseling and rehabilitation services, with 87 active participants at this time. Dr. Currier is a Travel Medicine & Immigration Certified Provider, a great benefit to corporations with international projects.
Dr. Foster specializes in low risk obstetrics, high risk obstetrics, gynecology and well-women care, as well as surgery (both routine, abdominal, advanced laparoscopic, vaginal, and office-based).
CHC holds contracts with many large employers in the area, including Loudoun County Transportation Department, Orbital Sciences, NiTek, Dulles Transit Partners (the company that is overseeing the Dulles Metrorail project), the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Fairfax County government and Town of Leesburg.
Dr. Foster has performed over 3,300 deliveries during his time with LMG and has served Loudoun County since 1994. Upon entering Dr. Foster’s office, one can easily become enamored with the walls of his suite, which are covered with picture of babies delivered by Dr. Foster over the years, as well as pictures of these children as they have grown up. Dr. Foster and his team of two staff members cared for over 1,100 distinct patients during 2011.
For the first part of her career, Dr. Currier was an Ophthalmologist. She worked in MedEx Urgent Care in Sterling during the 1980s and 1990s before solely focusing on Occupational Medicine. Dr. Currier is currently Board Certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine.
Empowerment is a theme throughout the practice. Dr. Foster and his staff believe that women should be empowered by participating fully in their health care decisions. He and his staff are well-trained, kind and caring. They care equally about each other as well as all of the patients they serve. The unhurried atmosphere lends itself to making patients feel comfortable and confident, whether they are considering delivery of their babies or one of many other services available.
Dr. Currier served on the LMG Board of Directors from 2005 to 2006 and is an active member of the Quality Assurance and Philanthropic Committees. Dr. Staci Holles-Sobata joined Dr. Currier’s thriving practice in January 2012. Dr. Holles is board-certified in Emergency Medicine, with extensive training and experience in minor and major trauma care, eye injury treatment, and burn treatment. Dr. Holles received her medical degree at Des Moines University, and completed her residency at Memorial Hospital in York, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Foster has been an active member of the LMG Finance Committee since June of 2000 and is the current Chairman of the Governance Committee. He has also served on the LMG Board of Directors for 10 years and was elected Vice-Chair of the Board for 2012. 18
Virginia Hackenberg, M.D.
Loudoun Gynecology Associates Dr. Hackenberg has served the Loudoun Community for over 22 years and currently practices in Lansdowne. She is Board-Certified by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and her focus is the gynecological aspect of care delivery. As a matter of fact, Dr. Hackenberg was the first female gynecology-only specialist in Loudoun County in 1990.
Leesburg Sterling Family Practice (LSFP) was founded by Dr. Stephen Napolitano in 1974. The current partners, in addition to Dr. Napolitano, are Drs. Anthony Crowley, Scott Nagell, T.J. Hegerich, Colleen Wright, Robert Hetzel, Jonathan Charen, Rahib Poonawala, and Mary Cecil. Offering a full spectrum of diagnostic and treatment procedures for maintaining wellness, treating illness and injuries, and dealing with acute needs, LSFP practitioners help patients stay healthy with individualized care plans. In addition, their patient population spans from infants to the elderly and all ages between. LSFP operates offices in Lansdowne, Leesburg, Purcellville, and Ashburn and includes 12 physicians and 9 nurse practitioners, who provided care for 70,500 patient visits during 2011. LSFP plans to grow its service line by offering a physical therapy component in 2012.
When describing her care philosophy, Dr. Hackenberg states, “My approach towards a physician-patient relationship involves giving the patient time to ask questions and express concerns as well as educating them about their condition and treatment options so they can make informed choices about their own health care.”
LSFP Purcellville has been voted “The Best Place To Work In Western Loudoun” in a recent poll run by Purcellville Gazette.
Dr. Hackenberg maintains regular hours for both office appointments and surgical procedures and works collaboratively in the office with the Loudoun Community Midwives. Dr. Hackenberg’s office suite underwent a reconfiguration in 2011, creating a more efficient physical space for the workflow in the office.
Dr. Tony Crowley chairs the Real Estate Committee and T.J. Hegerich continues to chair the IT Committee. Both Dr. Hegerich and Dr. Poonawala have been busy working on the implementation of the new EHR system. Drs. Wright, Nagell and Hetzel are active on the Philanthropic, Credentialing and QA Committees and Dr. Charen is a member of the Governance and Managed Care Committees.
Dr. Hackenberg continues to chair the Managed Care Committee and has contributed to LMG’s success in receiving preferred rates from payors. She also serves on the IT Committee, which has been instrumental in evaluating and overseeing the design of the new Pulse EHR system and was a member of the LMG Board of Directors for 6 years.
Dr. Stephen Napolitano served as a member of the LMG Board of Directors from LMG’s inception in June 2000 until December 2011. He also currently serves on the Finance Committee, a position he has also held since LMG was formed.
Dr. Crowley and Dr. Charen were both elected to the LMG Board of Directors for the 2012-2013 term. 19
Dr. Sarah Fletcher and her team at Sterling Family Practice operate out of their office in the Cascades area of Sterling. In 2011, Loudoun Dermatology Associates implemented a new practice management and EHR system, which has progressed with satisfying results.
Sterling Family Practice has embraced technology and uses the Medfusion Patient Portal as a complement to the electronic health record (EHR). The Medfusion Patient Portal allows patients to access their own secure and confidential online personal health record from home. Patients have the ability through Medfusion to request appointments, receive test results online, and send and receive secure messages to and from the office. Dr. Fletcher served on the Loudoun Medical Group Board of Directors from 2003 to 2005 and is currently an active member of the IT and Real Estate Committees.
Many of LDA's employees have at least 8 years of service or more with the practice. LDA employees celebrate with an annual “fun day” in the Fall as well as a Christmas dinner. The physicians and staff have shown their support for Loudoun residents by volunteering at the annual Skin Cancer Screening in conjunction with Inova Loudoun Hospital. LDA also dedicates time to the community by providing care to patients referred by the Loudoun Free Clinic. Dr. Moreland has been an active member of the Finance Committee since 2000 and served on the LMG Board of Directors from 2000 - 2002. Dr. Ha is a member of the Philanthropic Committee.

The Lansdowne office underwent extensive renovations in May 2011 and the Purcellville site was relocated in April 2012. The new Purcellville office offers expanded hours thereby transitioning from a satellite location in a time-share suite to a full-time office. The LIMA partners currently practice with Nurse Practitioners Kathleen Pelkofski, Robin Woyach, and Amy Emery. Dr. Pillai served on the LMG Board of Directors from 20102011 and is a member of the Credentialing Committee. Dr. Kim has been a Board member during both 2011 and 2012 and is the Chairman of the Ancillary Services Committee. In 2011, the Committee reviewed centralized laboratory services and has reviewed point-of-care medication dispensing in 2012. Dr. Kim is also active on the IT Committee and has been very engaged in the new EHR project over the past year. As a member of the LMG Retirement Committee, Dr. Neven Ujevic continues to serve as a Plan Fiduciary for LMG’s retirement plan. He is also an active member of the Human Resources and Philanthropic Committees.
Loudoun Pediatric Associates (LPA) has served Loudoun County children and their parents for over 35 years. The practice offers preventive care and sameday sick care for ages newborn through 18. Over the past few years, the providers at LPA have focused heavily on education and prevention, employing a Registered Dietitian, as well as several Certified Lactation Consultants who are also Nurse Practitioners. The partners of LPA are Dr. Rebecca Fox, Dr. Corinna Schrankel, Dr. Joel Madrid, and Dr. Max Lins. The practice provided care for over 45,000 patient visits during 2011 in over 15,000 total square feet of office space throughout their Lansdowne, Purcellville, and Berryville offices. A new physician, Dr. Jessica Roberson, will join LPA in July 2012. Dr. Rebecca Fox is active on both the LMG Real Estate and IT Committees. Dr. Corinna Schrankel served on the LMG Board of Directors from 2007 – 2009 and is a current member of the LMG Quality Assurance Committee. 21
Potomac Family Practice (PFP) was founded in 1994 by Dr. Valerie Williamson, who was trained at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Dr. NhuNga (Nikki) Truong, who trained at Chesterfield Family Practice Program in Richmond, Virginia. Dr. Joseph Lee, who completed his training at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Alabama, later joined Drs. Williamson and Truong and is also a partner in the practice. Loudoun County did not boast numerous primary care practices in the early 1990s, so the Loudoun community welcomed PFP, with convenient locations and a diverse staff, as a haven for new patients in growing areas of the county. PFP is committed to improving overall health for their patients and their families by providing excellent care. The physician owners, along with Nurse Practitioner, Julie Loftus, and staff members understand the importance of patient education, patient participation, and patient care – from infants to elderly individuals. PFP maintains its location in the Potomac Falls area of Sterling and also operates a location in Leesburg’s Cornwall Building. In 2011, PFP expanded its services to provide for lab billing and plans to continue developing additional ancillary services in 2012. Both Dr. Williamson and Dr. Lee served on the LMG Board of Directors from 2006 – 2008. Dr. Lee also serves on the Managed Care Committee and Dr. Truong is an active member of the Human Resources Committee.

M.D. VIP (Medical Doctor Value in Prevention) is a uniquely structured practice within LMG. Drs. Cook, Andrew and Greco provide individualized care to their patients through the MDVIP structure in their Leesburg office. One of the cornerstones of the program is that healthcare requires a partnership between physician and patient. Furthermore, the right type of support and a compassionate partnership with the physician will yield a relationship that helps individuals reach their wellness goals and become advocates for healthy living in the community. All of the physicians are accessible to their patients through emails or personal cellular phones. House calls are also part of the structure. Though the approach departs from traditional healthcare systems, Drs. Cook, Andrew and Greco get to know their patients, their lifestyles and current health profiles, which allows them to offer carefully developed, comprehensive health plans with long-term health benefits. The physicians follow up with their patients on a regular basis to help prevent any new medical issues from going undetected. Drs. Cook and Andrew began practicing together in 1986 after founding Loudoun Internal Medicine Associates (LIMA) where they practiced for 23 years before opening the MDVIP pod in 2009. The practice and its Medical Director, Dr. Anh-Dai Nguyen, joined Loudoun Medical Group in November 2011. Dr. Nguyen obtained her undergraduate degree in Genetics from the University of California, Berkeley. She attended medical school at the Medical College of Wisconsin and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the Scripps-Mercy Hospital and Clinics in San Diego, California. After residency, Dr. Nguyen returned to Wisconsin to complete her Allergy & Immunology fellowship at the University of Wisconsin. Board-certified in Pediatric and Adult Allergy & Immunology, Dr. Nguyen resides with her husband, a local cardiologist, two sons, and a daughter. Dr. Nguyen is deeply spiritual and incorporates compassionate care to each and every one of her patients. She believes that excellent care begins by being attentive to the needs of her patients; therefore, she strives to work with her patients to improve their quality of life, coupling her caring approach with evidence-based practices that are grounded in sound medical research.
Dr. Seth Tuwiner and his practice, Neurology Consultant Services, joined Loudoun Medical Group in January 2012. Some of the services offered at Neurology Consultant Services include visual, auditory, and somatosensory evoked potential studies, as well as electrodiagnostic services, such as electromyography and routine electroencephalography studies, as well as 24-72 hour electroencephalography studies.
A board-certified Internist, Dr. Waddell is artistic by nature, and – as such – her office doubles as a not-forprofit art gallery, “Kingstowne Canvases for a Cause”, in order to showcase the work of local artists and generate donations for local charities.
Dr. Tuwiner completed his Neuromuscular and Neurophysiology training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, and – after some moonlighting and private contracting, ultimately established his private practice in Lansdowne in February 2008. Board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) and the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine (ABEM), Dr. Tuwiner has also earned three sub-specialty certifications through the ABPN: vascular neurology, clinical neurophysiology, and neuromuscular medicine.
Currently, Dr. Waddell focuses on preventive services, acute sick visits, and chronic disease management, including hypertension, diabetes, asthma, COPD, and arthritis. Dr. Waddell intends to expand services in the future to include personal training, nutrition counseling, and mental health services.
